Nicholas Occomore earns two goals and player of the game for his performance in the 3-3 tie Sharks vs. Bears…Nicholas Occomore of the Sharks scored two goals in a thrilling 3-3 game against the Bears at the Greenborough Community Center on Sunday.
The Sharks, now 1-1-2 have been without star goaltender Delaney Dunlop (1-1, 3.00 GAA) for half the season. Defensive journeyman Tyler Sage has been stellar in relief for Dunlop (0-0-2, 2 GAA) giving the Sharks a chance every game.
After a solid first period seeing both teams exchange combative blows, Nicholas saw an open opportunity with a lobbed pass from Blaine Cameron behind the net. After netting his second goal late in the third period to give the Sharks the lead, fans were itching to toss their hats in for the hat-trick.
Unfortunately it was ill for now, with Cindy Wildhaber taking over goalie responsibilities from Team Ottawa’s Thalia McBride, the Bears saw a lot of opportunity to prove naysayers wrong. With strong performances from Izzy Sicoli and Nicki Virdee and a supporting role of newly named captain Scott Haycock, the Bears clawed their way back in a back and forth game of good ole Canadian hockey.
Greg Fergus, newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Hull-Aylmer assisted the Sharks, as Assistant Coach of the Sharks, under current Sharks coach, Cody Chenier. Cody was quoted as saying about Mr. Fergus, “He was really helpful today, and took his role rather seriously. We look forward to having him here again in the future.”
Greg Fergus is one of a growing number of prominent politicians taking notice in the OPWHL. Joining such names as; Ottawa Mayor Kim Watson, M.P for Charleswood—St. James—Assiniboia Steven Fletcher, & M.P.P. Yasir Naqvi among others.
After all was said and done, Nicholas Occomore was names player of the game for the Sharks and was awarded the team mascot Megalodon for his dominant 2 goal performance.
With the Sharks heading into next week’s game 1-1-2, they hope to shake off any naysayers against the Gators.
