The OPWHL wrapped up the first half of the season with a festive Holiday Celebration and Celebrity Game against the Ottawa Police Service, featuring special guests, a four-period matchup, and a community potluck. Team OPWHL earned a 14–7 victory in a day centered on inclusion, celebration, and community.

The Ottawa Power Wheelchair Hockey League closed out the first half of the 2025–2026 season with a memorable Holiday Celebration and Celebrity Game on Sunday, December 14th at the Greenboro Community Centre.

The afternoon featured a special four-period game between Team OPWHL and members of the Ottawa Police Service. In a fun yet competitive matchup, Team OPWHL came away with a 14–7 victory, showcasing the skill, teamwork, and growth that have defined the season so far. As always, the game was played in great spirit and highlighted the inclusive nature of power wheelchair hockey.

The league was honoured to welcome several special guests to help make the day extra meaningful. Members of the Ottawa Police Service joined players on the floor, while Stuntman Stu and Big Joe of the Ottawa REDBLACKS played for the OPS squad, bringing energy and excitement throughout the game. Councillor Jessica Bradley (Gloucester–Southgate Ward) was also in attendance and helped kick off the event with a ceremonial face-off.

The OPWHL was especially grateful to receive a special message of support from longtime Ottawa sports broadcaster James Duthie. With deep roots in Ottawa and Canadian hockey, James’ words of encouragement meant a great deal to our players, families, and volunteers as we celebrated the season and the community that surrounds this league. Following the game, players, families, volunteers, guests, and supporters came together for a holiday potluck, sharing food, conversation, and plenty of laughs. Door prizes were handed out, festive outfits were celebrated, and the afternoon served as a reminder that the OPWHL is about much more than hockey; it’s about connection, belonging, and community.

As the league heads into the holiday break, we would like to thank everyone who has contributed to an incredible first half of the season: players, families, volunteers, officials, partners, and supporters alike.

The OPWHL will return to regular-season play in the new year, and we look forward to building on the momentum when games resume on January 4th.
