The OPWHL players took it to the 2016 Celebrity Team with a 10 – 2 thrashing at the annual Celebrity Game this past Saturday in the Ravens’ Nest at Carleton University! Celebrities were provided electric wheelchairs this year however it proved a little more difficult for them to manoeuvre a power wheelchair and a hockey stick!

Celebrities reached the scoreboard late in the 1st period, but the OPWHL teams were dominant the rest of the way! League players gained momentum as the game went on scoring 7 times in the final two periods. The Ottawa Capitals ran up the scoreboard showing no mercy to the celebrities!

Mo Awad of the Wolves and the OttawaCapitals led the way offensively with 5 goals, Gators’ Matheiu Gagnon scored 2 goals, Shark’s Austin Merkley scored 2 goals, Blaine Cameron had 2 assists, Nick Occomore had 1 assist, and Wolves’ Brian Bertrand scored 1 goal. OPWHL penalties included Kellen Schleyer (interference), Emerson Bartel (crease violation), and a bench minor to the Bears for too many men on the floor.

Celebrity team goal scorers were Jordan Verdone, former Ottawa RedBlacks celebrity and Yasiin Joseph of the Carleton Ravens Men’s Basketball team. Justin Phillips of the RedBlacks picked up 1 assist. Penalties included MP Greg Fergus, CTV Mornings Melissa Lamb, Carleton Raven Yasiin Joseph (two hands on the stick), and Marie Ann Ivison, New Country 94 (ramming).
